Downloading the Garageio Mobile App

A native mobile app is available for Android Smartphones, iPhone/iPad and Apple Watch. The app free to download, but requires the purchase and installation of a Garageio system to work.


Phones that Support Garageio

Currently, Garageio supports:

  • iPhone/iPod/iPad (iOS 4.3 – 10.0.2) and Apple Watch (WatchOS 2)
  • Android (2.2 and higher)
  • BlackBerry Devices: Garageio Android can run on most BlackBerry devices running BB10.2 and higher. Refer to the BlackBerry documentation on how to run an Android app on your device.

Garageio is currently unavailable for Windows Phone.


Inviting Users

Only the account owner (the account which was used to setup the Garageio) can invite/remove access for users. An unlimited number of users can be given access to your Garageio, and users can be added and removed at any time.

For iOS and Android:

  1. Log into the Garageio app
  2. Tap “Settings” on the the door you would like to share access to
  3. Tap “Manage Users”
  4. Tap “Add New User”
  5. Enter the email address of the user you wish to share your door with
  6. Tap “Add New User”

For the web browser Dashboard:

  1. Log into your Garageio Dashboard
  2. Click the ADD USER button for the correct door
  3. Enter the invitee’s email address
  4. Select/deselect the doors you wish to give the person access to
  5. Click the INVITE button

If the user already has a Garageio account, they will be automatically granted access to your garage door once you invite them.

If the user does not have a Garageio account, they will receive an email requesting them to create a Garageio account.


Removing Users

Only the account owner (the account which was used to setup the Garageio) can invite/remove access for users. To remove a user who currently has access to your Garageio, complete the following steps:

For iOS and Android:

  1. Log into the Garageio app
  2. Tap “Settings” on the the door you would like to share access to
  3. Tap “Manage Users”
  4. Tap “Remove”

For the web browser Dashboard:

  1. Log into your Garageio Dashboard
  2. Find the door which the user has access to and click the “x” next to their email address

Using Existing Garage Controls

We aim to only supplement the way you currently use your garage door, so your existing door remote and wall controls will continue to work after Garageio is installed.


Garageio Updates

Your Garageio device is self-updating. When new software is available, the device will automatically download and install the updates.


Changing the Name of a Door

Changing the name of a door can easily be done inside the Garageio iOS or Android mobile app.

  1. Tap “Settings” on the door you would like to change
  2. Tap “Edit Door Name” and enter the new name
  3. Tap “Save”

Viewing door activity

To view your door’s activity for the last 7 days:

  1. Tap “Settings” on the door you wish to view
  2. Tap “View All Activity”

You cannot view activity for a door/Blackbox you do not own.


Connecting Garageio with IFTTT

IFTTT (If This Then That) lets you easily connect the Garageio Channel to other services and devices in your world. You can now connect the Garageio Channel right from within our app! To connect the Garageio Channel, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Garageio App
  2. Go to Account Settings
  3. Choose Integrations
  4. Choose IFTTT
  5. Choose an Applet that you would like to enable and follow the onscreen instructions!

Note: Actions using this integration will not appear in your IFTTT Applet Log (for now). You can also connect your Garageio on IFTTT.com.


Connecting Garageio with Amazon Alexa

In order to connect Garageio to Alexa, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Garageio App and navigate to My Account > Integrations > Amazon Alexa. Tap Continue.
  2. Set your Pin Code and re-enter to confirm (if you’ve already set your Pin Code within your My Account settings, enter it now).
  3. You’ll then be directed to the Alexa Companion App or Alexa Dashboard. Go to Skills and search for Garageio.
  4. Enable the Garageio Skill and enter your Garageio account email and password.
  5. Choose Allow.
  6. Ask Alexa “Alexa, ask Garageio if any of my doors are open.”

*Alexa now requires that you provide a Pin Code any time you want to open a garage door using your voice.
